1、physical and chemical properties

Polytetrafluoroethylene referred to as PTFE or F4. Polytetrafluoroethylene is a polymer of tetrafluoroethylene. Teflon (Teflon or PTFE), commonly known as "plastic king", is the United States DuPont's Peng Li Ge (Roy Joseph Plunkett) Dr. invented in 1938, DuPont registered in 1945 Teflon ® (Teflon ® ) Trademarks and commercial production.

Polytetrafluoroethylene is almost insoluble in all solvents, with excellent excellent overall performance, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, non-stick, self-lubricating, excellent dielectric properties, very low coefficient of friction. The addition of any filler to PTFE that can withstand the sintering temperature of PTFE has a significant improvement in its mechanical properties. At the same time, keep other excellent PTFE performance. Filling varieties are glass fiber, metal, metal oxide, graphite, molybdenum disulfide, carbon fiber, polyimide, EKONOL, wear resistance, limit PV value can be increased by 1000 times.

At the same time, Teflon has a high temperature characteristics, its friction coefficient is very low, so can be used for lubrication, but also become easy to clean the inner layer of the ideal coating.

PTFE Advantages:

1) high temperature - the use of working temperature up to 250 ℃.

2) low temperature resistance - with good mechanical toughness; even if the temperature dropped to -196 ℃, can also maintain a 5% elongation.

3) corrosion resistance - for most chemicals and solvents, showing inert, strong acid and alkali resistance, water and a variety of organic solvents.

4) weather resistance - the best life in plastic life.

5) High lubrication - is the lowest coefficient of friction in solid materials.

6) No adhesion - is the smallest surface tension in the solid material and does not adhere to any substance.

7) non-toxic - with physiological inertia, as artificial blood vessels and organs long-term implantation of the body without adverse reactions.

8) Electrical insulation - can withstand 1500 volts high voltage.

 

PTFE shortage:

1) Teflon has "cold flow". That is, the plastic deformation (creep) of the material produced under long continuous load, which brings some restrictions to its application. If PTFE is used as a gasket, tighten the bolt tightly so that it exceeds the specific compressive stress, it causes the gasket to "cool" (creep) and be flattened. These shortcomings can be overcome by adding the appropriate packing and improving the part structure.

2) PTFE has a prominent non-stick, limiting its industrial applications. It is an excellent anti-sticking material, which makes it extremely difficult to bond it to the surface of other objects.

3) The coefficient of linear expansion of PTFE is 10 to 20 times that of steel, which is larger than that of most plastics. The linear expansion coefficient changes with the temperature. In the application of PTFE, if the performance of this area is not enough attention, it is easy to cause losses.

7) can be made of high insulation electrical parts, high-frequency wire and cable foreskin, corrosion-resistant chemical containers, resistant to cold pipe, artificial organs and so on.

8) for batteries, fiber cloth and so on.

9) can be made film, tube plate rods, bearings, washers, valves and chemical pipes, pipe fittings, equipment, container lining, etc., for electrical, chemical aviation, machinery and other fields.

10) Mainly used in the electrical industry, in the aerospace, aviation, electronics, instrumentation, computer and other industries as power and signal lines of insulation, corrosion, wear-resistant materials.
